Our first day after the build we headed back to Nairobi. Our first stop once we arrived in Nairobi was the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where they house orphaned elephants and rhinos. They are only open from 11-12 daily so our window was small but the experience was well worth it! This was our first opportunity to see elephants in Africa and it was awesome to see them interacting with the keepers and literally running to get bottles of milk! As we spent more and more time at the IDP in Maai Mahiu, we learned more about how this camp came to be and the stories of the people within it. A special thank you to Christy Dueck, who was a member of our HFH family. She is an eloquent speaker and was very inspirational throughout our journey. One of the great things about working directly with the families was our interactions with the kids. Wally and I were both working with families who had children and we became quickly attached to them. They were super cute and always found joy in little things which was beautiful to see. The kids in Wally's family were Peter, David, Joseph and Jacinta. They were very quick to warm-up to everyone and often needed someone to play with so as not to distract everyone from their work. Sunday was our day off so we started off a bit later for breakfast and then headed into Navaisha for a church service at the Bread of New Life Ministries.
